How many years do you have to stay in college to become a psychologist?
Question: I want to know how long I have to stay in college to become a counselling psychologist. And can you recommend me some good colleges to study psychology in?
Answer: Well I am not sure how much starting psychologists make but I went to my guidence counselor to get information on psychology. And he said that psychologists have to go to college for 2 years to get their Assoc. Degree, 4 years to get their Bach., 6 years to get their Mast. Degree and 8 years for their PHD. Of course, he could have been wrong, it seemed he was talking off the top of his head at the time.
A clinical psychologist holds a doctorate such as a Ph.D. or Psy.D. (Doctor of Psychology) and has a state license in order to practice. Clinically oriented programs are usually about 5 years in length (4 years of classes and 1 year of full time internship), post bachelor’s degree, that is! Research Psychologists generally hold a Ph.D. and work in academic settings, therefore generally do not have a license.
